Pizzeria Libretto and Enoteca Sociale have partnered with The Hinterland Wine Company to create a new private label Prosecco-style sparkling wine called Sussurra. Hinterland, one of the top wineries of Prince Edward County, is a specialist making only sparkling wines of the highest quality. Sussurra is based on their entry-level Charmat Method wine known as Whitecap, but, going forward, will be a custom cuvée, overseen by our consulting sommelier, Peter Boyd. Presently, it is a blend of Riesling, Vidal and Muscat Ottonel, resulting in a lively, citrus-driven bubbly that reaffirms Prosecco’s prime directive of fun and festivity without pretense, an everyday means to celebrating Life.
The concept has been several months in development and has been a hands-on collaboration – as much back room as boardroom – to the point of enlisting our staff at every location to taste the wine and even compete to come up with its name. The winning entry, Sussurra, means ‘whisper’ or ‘murmur’ – not only echoing the sense of an ‘in-crowd’ secret, but also the action of the bubbles themselves.
Most importantly, the project to create Sussurra dovetails nicely with Libretto’s commitment to support Ontario wines and wineries. In this spirit, we have sharpened our pencils aggressively to be able to offer this premium product, retailing at $22.00, at the same price on all of our winelists company-wide as the Prosecco imported exclusively for us from Italy.
