Luca Gatti – Chef di Cucina
Chef Luca Gatti was born and raised in Toronto, ON. His curiosity in food started at home; being a part of an Italian family food and celebration were very important, from small family dinners, to big Christmas feasts he made sure to always to be in the kitchen helping out his mother and nonna. From there on in Chef Luca knew he wanted to become a chef.
Chef Luca started his professional career while studying at Humber College and has since worked in many Toronto kitchens. It wasn’t until his time working at Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar in 2008 that he discovered the chef that he aspired to be: fiercely innovative and equal parts compassionate towards both his team and the ingredients. Working with Chef Jamie Kennedy, and more closely with Chef Tobey Nemeth really opened his eyes to the farm-to-table movement, which still remains an important compass in Chef Luca’s career. Chef Jamie and Chef Tobey’s morals, values and skills were deeply ingrained in Chef Luca and still act as important philosophical anchors. Chef Luca joined Enoteca Sociale in 2011 as Sous Chef. Inspired by the simplicity yet depth of the menu at Enoteca Sociale from founding Chef and Partner, Rocco Agostino and most recently the whimsy and precision of Executive Chef Grant van Gameren, Chef Luca’s commitment, loyalty, and strong work ethic earned him the title of Chef di Cucina.
According to Chef Luca, he runs his kitchen with a focus on simple, honest, and local ingredients. “When people eat my food I want it to remind them of certain fond memories that they have with that dish, be it from a childhood memory or that once-in-a life time trip to Italy. Food really needs to be fun and provide comfort. This is what I strive for every day.”
